Known as "The Queen City," Charlotte is North Carolina's largest city, sitting right on the southern border of the state and bountiful with historical landmarks and cultural institutions. Home to the headquarters of Bank of America and Wachovia, Charlotte is one of the nation's largest financial centers, second only to New York City. The city also boasts a variety of top-notch museums, including Discovery Place, a fascinating hands-on science and technology center, and the Levine Museum of the New South, an award-winning display of post-Civil War Southern history. Charlotte provides a wide array of cultural offerings, supporting numerous art, ballet, opera and theater organizations as well as community festivals, totaling approximately 65,000 annual performances and events.
